Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee to appear on Tuesday morning in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. However, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, he was temporarily barred from appearing after the matter came to light. Abhishek Banerjee had threatened contempt of court regarding this and alleged that the CBI had issued the notice of appearance to deliberately harass him.
The CBI has again sent a letter to Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday, stating that the calling has been postponed until the next hearing in the Supreme Court. This move comes after Abhishek Banerjee had targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by posting the notice sent by the CBI on Twitter, claiming that it was an attempt to harass him.
The Trinamool Congress had talked about filing a contempt case against the CBI, but the matter has now been resolved with the CBI giving clarification in a letter to Abhishek Banerjee.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh clarified the issue in front of journalists, stating that the notice had been sent in compliance with the order of the High Court judge on April 13 and was not related to any other matter. Abhishek Banerjee also clarified that he received the notice on April 17 at 1.45 pm, although the posted image of the notice shows the date of April 16.
The CBI's investigation into the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam continues, and Abhishek Banerjee remains a key figure in the case. However, the controversy surrounding the CBI's notice of appearance has been resolved for the time being with the calling being postponed until the next hearing in the Supreme Court.
